Sylhet City Corporation former mayor Anwaruzzaman has given a video message on the social media Facebook. On Saturday (August 24) came live from his Facebook page and spoke for 18 minutes. Live, he strongly criticized the current interim government.

Meanwhile, due to the change in the political context, cases are being filed one after another against the police and Awami League and its organizational leaders in Sylhet courts and various police stations. Anwaruzzaman has been made one of the accused in five of these cases.

Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury said on Facebook live, ‘The current government does not believe in democracy. They have made Bangladesh a hostage. Homes of millions of Awami League activists were attacked across the country. This has never happened in Bangladesh. Awami League is killing leaders. Killing the police. burning University-college teachers are insulted. These tortures will be judged one day in Bangladesh.’

He said, ‘Sheikh Hasina is still the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. He did not resign. He was forcibly deported. If he was in the country, he would have been killed. She (Sheikh Hasina) will return to Bangladesh soon.’

Anwaruzzaman said, ‘No one can survive by killing politics. Awami League will turn around. We have to start protesting against the injustice and torture they are doing.’

Regarding his removal from the local government, Anwaruzzaman said, ‘They want to establish the Hamid Karzai Marka government in the country by removing the representatives elected by the people. They want to make Bangladesh Afghanistan.

However, a party source confirmed that Anwaruzzaman left for London after the fall of the Awami League government. He currently resides in London, UK.

According to sources, Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury arrived at London’s Heathrow airport on a flight from Kolkata last Sunday (August 18). From there he went home. However, he is staying at home due to security concerns in the UK. Still not out of the house for safety reasons.

It is to be noted that Awami League nominated candidate Anwaruzzaman was elected mayor in the fifth election of Sylhet City Corporation (CCIC) on June 21 last year. On November 7 of that year, he assumed the duties of the mayor at Nagar Bhaban.
